Hi, I’m Jesse!
I’m a personal trainer here at Success Fitness & Training, looking to help others make a difference for themselves!
We all know there are a ton of benefits to movement and keeping active but not everybody knows how or where to start… I’ve been there too.
I firmly believe that fitness is for everyone, but taking that first step can not only be scary, or even seem impossible. Whoever you are, wherever you’re at, that first step can be taken with us here at Success. Here’s how I took mine:
Growing up, I was in football, basketball, and track, so my school years were super busy; however, once I graduated and went to college (not even knowing what I wanted to go for) I had nothing but studying and books.
I hadn’t realized how much I needed that physical outlet that being in sports gave me. Soon after that realization began my journey with lifting weights.
Of course my coaches had us in the weight room occasionally, but there was still SO much more to the world of fitness than I’d learned from being an athlete, which was quickly overwhelming.
I now had to come up with my own programs, and my goals didn’t need to be baskets or touchdowns.
I dove in headfirst and made many mistakes – burnout, poor lifting techniques, and not understanding that there was a limit to how much I should do in any given workout (I can recall a day I was in the gym for four hours. Needless to say, that’s just unnecessary).
Luckily, I was quick enough to understand that I needed to correct these mistakes if I wanted to find success in the gym.
I got help from a friend, who directed me to his personal trainer. I began working with him soon after, which led to me being a client for about three years.
Once I began doing the right things, I started seeing results and fell in love with the whole process. I wanted something to train for and found powerlifting.
I spent about two years training almost specifically for powerlifting, competing three times and qualifying for USAPL Collegiate Nationals but because of Covid, I didn’t get to compete there.
Luckily, my coach was smart enough to train me for powerlifting while keeping the horseblinders off of me since there’s so much more to wellness than just being strong and chasing big weights – that’s what I want to be for you.
This whole experience led me to pursue a degree in Exercise Science. Unfortunately, I graduated right as Covid shut every gym around me down, so I couldn’t really do anything that I wanted to with it. Discouraged, I spent the next couple of years not putting my education to use, and even wondering if it was really worth it.
Thankfully, I found my way back and have rediscovered my love for the world of fitness – I never would’ve found that without taking my first step.
I’ll never claim to always have the answers on the spot, but I absolutely consider myself a student of the game. Because of this, I actually love when people come up with questions that I don’t yet know the answer to, because it forces me to grow!
I believe that between the other coaches here at Success, former classmates, and independent research, l will have no problem not only finding, but actually understanding the answer before our next session.
So, what are we waiting for? Reach out and let’s get started with that first step!
